Forbes Slackful 'Self-Made' Kylie Jenner Backlash

Forbes Dubbed Kylie Jenner 'self-made' & social media went crazy! (Self-Made or White Privilege?!!)

The argument here was whether she is self made or not, just clarifying that she shouldn't be counted in the same bracket as of self made.

I think the problem with Kylie Jenner is that people would rather buy her products that are appropriating black culture, than black peoples products. It’s like where are black people profiting.

I’d argue that it’s less “buying into it” than self confidence issues. Pop culture has convinced a lot of people that white is the beauty standard and everything else is “other”. It took me a long time to feel confident in myself without trying to change. Just my 2¢.

"Words have meanings and it behooves a dictionary to remind us of that" - and so Dictionary tweeted a reminder to Forbes about the true meaning of the term 'Self-made'. "Self-made means having succeeded in life unaided. Used in a sentence: Forbes says that Kylie Jenner is a self-made woman."

That’s like saying getting a start from a loan company makes a new business owner not self made.. she started her own company, brand new, her ideas, her products, her own brand.

Another slackful tweet to add to the growing backlash came from an activist on Twitter stating that "You can get on the cover of Forbes + be a young billionaire by selling the very features, style and swag that Black Women have always possessed but got called ghetto for it.

The problem isn’t Kylie. The problem is America.
If she didn’t exploit it, someone else would have." - Brittany Packnett.
She started with fame & fortune. (Not taking away from what she’s done). You could do what she did if you put all the energy into your personal dreams that you put into criticizing people you don't know.

Brittany also goes to say, "notice-now that she’s made her fortune? Those lip fillers came out. The fake than disappeared. Just like Miley Cyrus before her, she’ll exploit black culture and black people for as long as its profitable-and then return to the comfort of whiteness.

Why? Because it pays. And it pays because America loves black culture and not black people".

At first I agreed that she is not self-made, she had a huge advantage in everything she’s accomplished. She started from a place of privilege, wealth, and power that most of us will never know.

However; I think people are taking away from the fact she build a social media empire and her success came of the back of that. So self-made is pretty accurate in respect to her cosmetics business.

This is uncalled for, seriously. I'm not a Kylie fan but look up "salty," where you work, and have a seat.
